Deciding to start therapy can be a difficult, courageous proposition to do and I am glad that you are starting now. With a lot of uncertainty in searching out for the best therapist for your mental health needs, I do hope that I can be of service to you and your family. My approach to therapy is holistic and client-centered, these are your concerns and I treat them with the utmost respect. Everyone is unique, so I take the time to get to know my clients and understand their needs in a safe, protected environment free of judgement. I know that opening up to a complete stranger is hard but I pride myself on my ability to work on building trust in order for your goals to be achieved.
During my 10 years in the mental health field, I have worked with individuals, families, children, and groups with several concerns and issues. My fields of expertise are anxiety, depression, oppositional defiant disorder, anger management, parenting skills, trauma, and communication. I follow several different treatment modalities which include: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness practices and Parent and Child Interactive Therapy.
I started my work as a mental health technician on an inpatient unit for children and teenagers after I graduated from the University of Evansville with a Bachelors in Sociology. Soon after, my desire to help those with mental concerns led me to becoming a community resource specialist. During this time I began my graduate program at the University of Southern Indiana where I achieved a Masters in Social Work. Since then I have worked as a therapist assisting adults, families, and children in the Indianapolis area. My work has consistently put me in positions in helping adults, families, and children improve their mental well-being, whether from establishing a better household or simply improving their ability to manage stress. I also have worked extensively with couples, helping to bridge the gap between individuals with positive communication and understanding. I would like more than anything to be a force for positive change in your life should you choose to meet with me.
On a personal level, I am happily married with two sons and two dogs, Dodge and Penny. I was born and raised in Crown Point, Indiana before moving to Indianapolis, IN. I come from a family of mental health providers, my dad being a psychologist and my mother being a social worker. Mental health has always been a big part of my life and I know it's important to take time for yourself now and then. My biggest hobbies are running, reading, writing and video games. I love sci-fi, especially anything that has to do with outer space! I can’t wait to meet you and get started on your journey!
